Seamstress
From a very early age, Phyllis has been sewing first by hand and then on the machine. Her fascination with all things sewn grew to include clothing – how else could you be sure not to get hand-me-downs with 5 siblings? – place mats, her wedding dress without buttons because her first machine did not do buttonholes, husband’s shirts to little girl dresses and toys. Lately, her passion has become finding and rescuing fabric from other people’s closets and blending them with new fabrics to create bags of all sizes and kinds. From her family’s many moves her sewing adventures expanded to cross stitch parties in Denver and testing quilting patterns from a dear friend in Arizona.
The economic ups and downs of recent years have helped launch her sewing into a side business which she hopes to bring up to full-time when her daughter graduates from college.
The Exchange was the first place to give her the encouragement to try!
